Effective Teaching Skills

Effective Teaching Skills

Teaching is a professional activity performed by the teacher through basic and main operations, and its aim is to help students to learn and to teach well. Teaching skill is the performance carried out by the teacher, based on the ease, accuracy and understanding of what acquired rights. They learn from the motor and mental, while providing a greater amount of effort and cost, and can be defined as the skill of teaching.  This skill can be developed in several ways, such as educational preparation that precedes the teaching process, access to experiences, and previous practices. Teaching skill varies according to the nature of the subject taught to students, the characteristics of that subject, and the goals that were set for its teaching.

Effective Teaching Skills

Having knowledge of teaching skills and how to apply those skills by the teacher is a necessary factor for building a sound educational edifice. This links theory and practice, with these 3 skills;

  • Planning
  • Execution
  • Evaluation

Planning skill

This process is the first skill that must be mastered by the teacher who seeks to excel in the teaching process. This is planning the teaching process. This process is carried out by the teacher alone, as he thinks about the things, the topics that he will teach to students, and how the teaching will be done.

The planning process requires the teacher to be highly capable in knowing what the students need, ensure their presence during teaching, and also determine the capabilities of these students. He should try to devote them, and benefit from them in the teaching process. .

After determining these, the teacher must be able to set the objectives of the educational process, analyse the content of the material to be taught, and determine the best way to present the scientific material. This will help him arrive at an elaborate plan for the lesson he will present. In this plan he should mention his most important justifications for the educational goals, as well as the sources from which these goals are drawn. The goals that are set should have a strong, clear formulation and serve the educational process.

Execution skill

This skill includes all the practices that the teacher performs and implements in the classroom. Below are some other skills that are included;

Preamble before the lesson

It is the process by which the teacher works to establish a friendly relationship between him and the students, or a cognitive relationship related to the study material. He tries to involve the student in the lesson and in the scientific materials.

A successful teacher should begin his lesson with an introduction about the lesson to be explained, or a specific activity in which he opens the educational session. This is known as the preamble, which has many benefits, including:

  • the learners’ interest in the subject
  • knowing the extent to which each one of them is ready to receive this topic
  • The ease of moving from the previous lesson to the next.

Preparation before the lesson

It is all the words and actions the teacher does. This is done with the aim of preparing students for the new lesson, so that they are in a state of mind and emotion that allows them to receive and accept the new information. The skill of preparation is a basic skill that the teacher must use to present the lesson, it differs from the preparatory process.

The preparation for the lesson is limited to the logical preparation for the students. As for the preparation, it is focusing on the emotional side of the students, their interest, and making the students’ orientation and feelings towards the scientific material. Then after understanding these feelings, the teacher’s response to them, and notifying him of how close he is to them, and thus he earns friendliness of the teacher. The use of the method of preparation achieves much better results and goals than those who do not prepare before the lesson.

Asking Questions in class

Asking questions in the classroom is considered the basis of the teaching process. This is because it increases and deepens the students’ thinking process through questions used by the teacher. It is educational, as it adds an atmosphere of positive assistance and interdependence between the teacher and the student. So the student is not just an individual receiving information, but rather a person who receives information in a proper manner, as he dialogues, and discusses. In the classroom he is an active individual, interacting with the topic at hand.

School homework

The homework that the teacher sets for the student creates a kind of cooperation between the teacher and the student as they work together for the success of the educational process.

Calendar skill

This is the third skill that the teacher should master. Teachers have paid special attention to it, that some of them exaggerate their interest in this skill. They do it to the extent that the educational process seems to be a means to serve the goals of evaluation only. This is reflected in the teaching process. In the classroom, teachers resort to focusing on topics, of which exam questions are frequent.

The importance of teaching skill

The importance of the teaching skill appeared in many aspects. As the master teacher of this skill facilitates the achievement of the learning process. It also facilitates the implementation of the requirements of the work and functions. Being a master of this skill deepens the process of learning and educating. This is done with an increase in the awareness and knowledge of the teacher.
