Know The Car’s Engine Components

The car’s engine is one of the main parts of the car. It is the heart of the car and the main energy provider in it. The engine is one of the highly complex parts in the car. As it contains many different parts that work together in harmony in order to supply the car with the power needed for its movement. If you read this whole piece you will know the car’s engine components.

The main components of the car’s engine

The internal combustion engine is the most used engine in cars nowadays. Although there are different shapes and types for this engine, they all share the main and basic parts. Let’s talk about those. Brainwave!

We’ll start by the cylinder…The cylinder is the part in which the combustion process occurs. Here there are many different parts such as the pistons and valves. The area inside the cylinder is called the combustion chamber.

Up next? The piston.

This is the part in the car that is responsible for saving energy. It does this by converting it from chemical energy into mechanical energy. Through the explosion of fuel in the combustion chamber, which pushes the piston with an engine with the crankshaft.

Around the piston there are also piston rings, which have a very great importance in sealing the combustion chamber. Done to prevent the air mixture and fuel from leaving outside the chamber. Also preventing oil from entering the combustion chamber.

And now…Valves. There are two types of valves in the car.

  1. The intake valves allow the mixture of air and fuel or air only to enter the combustion chamber during the intake stroke.
  2. The exit valves are those which allow the exhaust gases out of the cylinder.

The number of valves in the cylinder varies. As it is in many cars, there is more than one inlet and outlet valve in each cylinder, and the inlet valve is usually the largest valve.

Let’s move on to the connecting rod.

The connecting rod is the part responsible for attaching the piston to the crankshaft. It also  transmits movement from the piston to the crankshaft in the power stroke and back in the other strokes. The crankshaft is responsible for converting the reciprocating movement of the piston into rotational motion and transmitting it to the rest of the car.

Next is the oil collector. This is the area at the bottom of the engine in which the engine oil and impurities are collected and pumped through the oil pump to the engine parts again.

The combustion burners. Combustion burners are only found in gasoline engines. They start the combustion process and ignite gasoline. The diesel engine sometimes contains a light bulb in order to maintain the required temperature in the combustion chamber, so that the combustion process is completed with maximum efficiency.

Last is the camshaft. The camshaft is the shaft responsible for opening and closing the valves simultaneously with the strokes in which they take place. The camshaft gets its movement from the crankshaft, and despite its widespread use, some cars operate electronically to open and close the valves without the presence of the camshaft.
