Baking cakes has been around for decades. Until today cakes are loved for the marvelous sense of taste they give us. Way before electric ovens were invented, people still used to bake cakes. How did they do this? We might as well go back in time and learn how they did this.

If you’re reading this, you probably want to bake a cake but have no oven or you just randomly ran out of gas and need to bake that cake either way. I know, it’s a bummer! Don’t stress though, I’m going to show you the easiest way to bake a cake with simple ingredients you already have at home with absolutely no oven.

Ingredients for cake batter:

  • 300 grams of flour
  • 150 grams of Sugar
  • 2 tea spoons of Baking powder
  • Butter/ margarine
  • Flavour of choice (Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry etc.)
  • 3 Eggs
  • 50 ml of Milk ( optional)
  • Two aluminium pots ( large & small )
  • Clean sand

Steps

Follow these simple steps to make your very own cake without an oven:

  1. Get any large bowl and put in 300 grams of flour and 2 tea spoons of baking powder. Mix them well.
  2. Grab another bowl, add ½ cup of butter, whisk very well so it’s soft then add 150grams of powdered sugar. Whisk well until substance is white and frisky. The next step is to put in 3 eggs – don’t put in all 3 at once, put 1 at a time as you whisk and mix well. Then finally add the flavour of your choice.
  3. Next, add in ½ of the flour and baking powder mixture. Combine them and whisk well till it is soft and cream like then add in ½ of the milk. Mix well and add the other ½ of the flour, once it’s all in add the other ½ of milk and mix very well.
  4. You’re going to use the 2 aluminium pots now.
  5. Take the larger aluminium pot and add one cup of clean sand inside. The reason as why sand is added, is so that the cake doesn’t burn. Take a wire rack and put it on top of the sand, cover it and preheat on low heat for about 5 minutes.
  6. While the large pots is preheating, take the smaller one and grease it with butter all around and dust it with some flour lightly. Add the whole cake mixture into that pot. Take the smaller pot and put it on the wire rack, inside the large pot. Cover it, and let it cook for 60 – 70 minutes on low heat.

Note: never place the small pot directly on the sand – there should be something separating them. If you don’t have a wire rack, you can use 3 stable stones.

7. After 70 minutes, take a tooth pick and stick it in the cake. If it comes out wet then the cake isn’t ready yet. However, if it comes out dry it is ready. Take it out and let it cool. The cake is ready to be served – dig in!

Many think baking is hard and takes a lot of skills but is quite simple. If you put in your efforts and follow steps carefully, you will be able to bake the cake in no time. It might not be perfectly perfect the first time but keep trying, you will eventually have the wonderful spongy and tasty cake.
