Simple Ways to Motivate Yourself

Just start

You do not have to wait for motivation for you to start. If you want to work consistently every day, you just have to start. The funny thing about this is once you have started working for some time, it starts getting easier and easier and the motivation eventually catches up.

Start small

If the task you want to do feel too intimidating, you can start with small steps instead of procrastination. You can break it down, like start by cleaning, then do the next one and keep moving slowly.

Reduce distractions

If you have so much distractions all around you that you can access anytime, it becomes so hard to focus on what you’re supposed to be doing. You can shut the door, put your phone on silent mode and stay focused.

Get accountability

Tell your family and friends what you’re doing and ask them to regularly check up on you and the progress. If you do this, it will be easier to focus and not get a way to postpone.

Get motivation from friends

You should spend more time with positive people. Negative people will always look at the bad side of things. Let the energy from enthusiastic people flow over to and through you.

Also get motivation from strangers.

Don’t limit yourself to getting motivation from the close people to you. There are so many motivational books, podcasts, quotes and blogs that can automatically renew your motivation.

Listen to energetic music

This is one of the simplest things you can do that will help you. When you feel low is motivation/energy you should play some music that will inspire you to get up.

Be optimistic

You should be positive at all times and look at things in a constructive way to recharge your energy. Being pessimistic can drain your energy and motivation too. So when youre starting to look at things in a negative way, ask yourself questions like these;

  1. Whats the good thing about this?
  2. What is the hidden opportunity here?

Be kind to yourself always

It is easy to fall into the trap of blaming yourself when you fail. You should know that doesn’t work well but instead makes you feel so low. Next time just be kind to yourself, nudge yourself and take one small step.

Be constructive when you fail

When you stumble and fall ask yourself this, “what can I learn from this?” with that in mind, take action and improve on it.

Compete in a friendly way.

When you are at school/work make a friendly completion with someone for example to see who finishes first. The competition will liven things up more.

Always remind yourself why you started

When you are less motivated and low in energy it is so easy to forget why you are doing this in the first place. Take some time and write down at least 5 reason why you are doing what you’re doing. Keep that note where you can access it every day to help you get a boost when you are low.

Be grateful

When motivation is low it so easy to start seeing your life in a negative way. In order to get your motivation back and be positive ask yourself, “What are the things I take for granted?” – They could be answers like “food, water or roof over my head”
